It seems that there is some bad news about to be given to owners of vans and fleet operators. Everyone in the transportation industry should expect another major increase in fuel prices. This will be on top of the usual tax and retail price increase after the European Commission confirmed it has confirmed its plans of an EU-wide carbon tax for motor fuels. Those new rules would mean an additional tax imposed on both diesel and petrol and it would be charged along with VAT and fuel duty. Everyone in transportation is aware of the fact that fuel makes up a major part of expense for vans and has an impact on prices of services. The other objective of the European Commission is to cut emissions of carbon dioxide within frames of the incoming carbon tax. Those plans have already met resistance on the side of transportation associations that ask the Commission to review the EU’s energy taxation directive from the year 2003. Owners of vans and fleet operators suggest that the authorities of European Union could execute a tax on emissions of carbon dioxide on many market sectors, including transport, which are currently excluded from the EU emissions trading. What it basically proposes is the inclusion of a tax based on carbon dioxide emissions of specific fuels. Such solution would mean that operators and owners of vans can decide about the tax to certain extent and make actions to reduce their expenditure.
